We’re thrilled to share a heartfelt message from one of our dedicated BarnGeek community members, Ed Edgell. It has been nearly five years since Ed last reached out to us, and he has some exciting news—he’s ready to build another barn!

Ed, a career firefighter, has not only found immense pride and utility in building his own barn but has also inspired his extended fire family to pursue their own barn-building dreams. His story is a testament to the sense of accomplishment and joy that comes from crafting something with your own hands.

Stay tuned as Ed embarks on his next barn-building adventure, and perhaps this time, we’ll even get to see a video of his journey. His passion and gratitude remind us of why we do what we do, and we couldn’t be more proud to have inspired him and many others.

Thank you, Ed, for sharing your journey and for continuing to inspire those around you. Here’s to building more dreams, one barn at a time!

Here is Ed’s story in his own words..

Aaron,

It has been near five years since last we communicated. I hope you and your family are well. My gang is doing very well and I’m doing better than I deserve. I want to build another barn! I have all but siding cut and it’s time to get another hardware kit ordered.
I never got around to a video but maybe I will this time around. No promises as I still haven’t retired and am busier than a one armed man hanging paper in a windstorm!
It’s a real joy to show my barn and share the story with so many over the last five years. I’m a career firefighter and have lots of extended fire family who are fans of the barn. In fact, two of our younger guys talk of building a barn of their own in the next few years. It brings me pleasure and pride to have inspired their plans and look very forward to my next build and helping with theirs.
On that note, allow me to reissue my gratitude for the inspiration you gave me to tackle building my barn. Besides the utility of having a barn and the value it adds to our property, having built the barn myself has given me a sense of pride and accomplishment that’s hard to place a value upon. I imagine many folks like me feel similar gratitude for what you’ve shared and helped inspire in them.
I hope you share my sense of pride and accomplishment in that you’ve inspired so many of us to chase these wonderful little dreams.
You most certainly should, Aaron.
Thank you, -Ed Edgell
