As I was looking through my plans I had a couple questions. It’s looking like the material is actual dimensions , am I correct on that ? Just wondering so I have the beams sized for the metal brackets . The other thing I noticed by looking way ahead as I often do , is the eves. If I were to leave the whole beam there plus the pearling , wouldn’t I end up with a 12 “ high fascia ? Is that cut on an angle from 3 “ to full beam to end up with a 6 “ fascia ? I built a lot of pole barns but this is my first big beam barn. Very excited to get going on it. Thanks for keeping the American heritage going.
Yes the plans call for full dimension lumber a 6×6 is 6 inches x 6 inches actual.
The fascia can be done a number of different ways. A lot of folks don’t put any fascia on at all, and just leave the tails of the timbers and purlins exposed, some use 1×3’s for fascia to just cover the purlins, others create a layered fascia that covers the beam tails entirely. It’s really up to you and what kind of look you like.
