I am sending some additional pictures of my progress with building the Chicken Fortress. I call it a Chicken Fortress because the majority if the wood is 2″x 8″s and 2″x 10″s that is what I had salvaged. It is one heavy chicken coop which should easily house 15 to 20 chickens!
You will see some pictures below of the progression and it attached to the kennel which I wrapped in chicken wire. I have the kennel covered with some camo tarps I had so the chickens had some shade and cover from the weather though it is been a hot Summer. The tarps are mounted to 2″x 4″ like a roll of plastic wrap. I can roll over the kennel to cover or open to vent and there is a very large dog house in the kennel too for them until I am finished with the Chicken Fortress!
I like the look and setup of this coop. It would be perfect for my 15 girls. However i cant seam to locate a set of plans or material list?? I do have building experience so i know i can handle it. Thank you in advance

Hello Chicken Fortress Builder! I have not eaten an meat from anyone since 1969. I haven’t eaten any eggs for about a year. Because you are building a sturdy and safe home for the chickens in your family, I’d like you to know about my search. You don’t live in Mendocino County, CA so you won’t be able to help in my search, but my idea might appeal to you.
I’d like to buy eggs from the Farmers’ Market or from individuals who raise chickens but to date I’ve not found one human that keeps the chickens alive after they are too old to lay eggs. I only want to buy eggs from people humane enough to see the chickens as being providers of eggs for a long time and worthy of life, their own, until they die of natural causes.

Greeting Erica I’m sure if you keep looking you will find what you’re looking for. As for my chickens as you said they are family members. My wife and daughter named them immediately as soon as they arrive. We live out in the New England country side in Exeter R.I. We raise a great deal of our own food in gardens that are also fertilized by the chickens and our chickens are free range! They are the prettiest chickens you have ever seen. We have Plymouth Barred Rocks, Rhode Island Reds, and White Rocks and a couple of odd White Cochin and and a black and white spotted chicken I have no idea what it is! But you see they are family and they will be well cared for always! I’ll post a picture I took tonight of some of my girls perched together all cozy!
